Garko Local Government is one of the most popular local Government of Kano State. It was also curved out from Wudil Local Government area on the 14^th December, 1994 by military administration of the general Sani Abacha. The area is located at the south east location part of Kano State with a land mass of about 740.80KM.

Garko Local Government shares common boundaries with Wudil Local Government in the North, Sumaila Local Government in the South then Bunkure Local Governement area in the west and Kibiya Local Government in west south and Tudun Wada Local government in the South West again.

The Local Government has a total population of about 161, 966 as at 2006, and it is located in the savannah region, a situation which enhances its agricultural and potentials through two seasons that is rainy season and dry season. It comprises of a District head Dokajin Kano Hakimin Garko with Nineteen (19) Villlages, these villages are: Garko, Raba, Makadi, Kawo, Gurjiya, Yarka, Kafin Malamai, Lamire, Buda, Kera, Katumari, Dal, Garun Ali, Sarina, Kwas, Sanni, Zakarawa and Maida.

The people of this thirty one (31) years old Local Government are mainly farmer’s. However, they are also into cattle rearing, weaving mat making and blacksmith commonly on the level of literacy it is about average and the Local government has ten (10) political wards as follows: Garko ward, Raba ward, Kafin Malamai ward, Gurjiya ward, Katumari ward, Sarina ward, Dal ward, Kwas ward, Zakarawa ward and Garun Ali ward.
