BRIEF HISTORY OF MAKODA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

Makoda Local Government Area was created on 4th December, 1996, when the Federal Government create additional states and Local Governments area as part of the transition to civil rule. The Headquarter of the Local Government is located at about 60kms from the State capital with land mass of 160,000sdkms with headquarter at Koguna town.

The Local Government area has eleven (11) wards as follows:-

  1. Makoda
  2. Jibga
  3. Babbar Ruga
  4. Taugaji
  5. Wailare
  6. Durma
  7. Koguna
  8. Koren tabo
  9. Satame
  10. Maitsidau
  11. Kadandanu

It is shares boundaries with Danbatta, Bichi, Minjibir and Ghari local government areas of Kano State, as well as Roni and Kazaure Local Government areas of Jigawa state, the people of Makoda Local Government are predominantly Fulani and Hausa and Islam is their major Religion.

TRADITIONAL INSTITUTION/DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION UNIT.

Traditionally/District Administration unit is operate under the Kano Emirate Council where they play a vital role in Governance and they are highly respective by the people. The District Head Office is headed by Alhaji Arc. Ali Mukhtar Adnan Danbatta (SA’IN KANO) with 22 village heads and 166 ward heads.

GEOLOCATION

Makoda Local Government Area is Geographically the area lies within the Savannah Zone. The Latitude and Longitude of Makoda Local Government is approximately 12025’11 N Latitude, 8024’36E Longitude decimal degree this is about 12,420N and 8.420E (Makoda Coordinate 12.41990N 8.43080E). Makoda Local Government is blessed with Fertile Soil suitable for Agricultural Activities. The major Agricultural products produced include Sorghum, Millet, Maize, Groundnut and Beans all produce in commercial Quantities as well as Animal rearing area particularly cattle, sheep and Goats.

POPULATION SIZE

Makoda Local Government Area according to 2006 census it has population of 222,399.

MINERAL RESOURCES

Makoda Local Government has shaft sand for Glass making at Yanbawa Village of Jibga Ward.

TOURISM ATRACTION

There are an expert and excellent traditional weaving people as Maitsidau is weaving center on the State.

POPULAR OCCUPATION

Agriculture and Trading are the mainstays of Makoda Economy such as Cassava, Groundnut, Millet, all are produce in commercial quantities

The supervising authority for the 44 Local Government Areas and the Emirate Council, ensuring effective administration and grassroots development across the state.
